HELP! I Am Opening a New Childcare Centre

Looking to open a Brand New Centre

What a great idea you think! "I am going to open up my very own centre, and this centre is going to be state of the art, and it will be different to all the other centre's around, I will make a difference!" you get so excited and you tell your closest friends and family of your grand idea, your on such a high you think it is the best idea, but that's all before you start either looking at what you have to do to purchase a centre or you may end up purchasing a centre, either way you start googling away, talking to friends, colleagues and other professionals in the early childhood field and all the information starts rolling in but some how you are so over whelmed, confused and quite frankly have no idea what you need to do now, what is a priority or when to do all the requirements. "That is the requirements part don't get you started on the non requirements" you are thinking right now; all the things you should do before opening up a centre, and all your grand plans, and the list just does not stop. OR you may be on the other side;you may be thinking list, what list, mine has not started because you just cannot find the answers, you are looking and talking but you still have no idea on what information you need to know to open up a centre.

Where To Start

What I recommend is making sure you are opening up a centre for the right reasons, this being for the children and community. having the best intentions will always help and will help ground you an your plans. When you are in the thinking stage I would suggest you look at the ACECQA website, this will help with many questions in regards to standards however the most important area you should know is the law and Regulations regarding child care services. When you know the law and Regulations many other aspects in the design phase or looking for a place will be easy, as the Law and Regulations has information such as space requirements, legal obligations, what a service has to have, what the requirements are if you serve food etc. Other than looking at what your legal obligations and requirements are I would suggest places that would be most useful such as your local council, because here you will find if you have any restrictions, what your demographics are, what the populations is and the growth in the area will be. Doing your research now will only benefit you in your future. I know this is not all the information you need to know to open up a service, however this is information you need to ensure you have prior to purchasing, building or making changes to a centre. This will be your roots for your centre and then the rest will come. without proper foundations your project will face ongoing issues Now you know what you need to do in the before stage you now can breathe.

Some Questions To Ask Yourself

Do I know the laws and regulations regarding child care services?

Have I checked the local council restrictions?

Have I navigated the ACECQA website and applied to be an approved provider?

Have I checked the local demographics need for child care?
